Collector of Random Talents: Why I’m Sharing Recipes the Old-Fashioned Way

I’ve always wanted to be someone with many talents, a person who can answer the classic question, “So, what do you do?” with something a little more interesting than just my job title. Imagine being able to say, “Oh, this? Well, I can do this, and that, and even this…” and actually mean it. That’s my dream. To be a collector of random skills, constantly learning, creating, and pivoting from one passion to the next.

Today, I want to share one of those “random skills” I’m working on: Bula Mail.

Bula Mail is my little subscription service where I send out recipes through the old-fashioned way: printed on linen-textured postcard cards, delivered straight to your mailbox. No scrolling, no videos, no internet. Just a tangible recipe you can hold, try, and keep.

Cooking has always been a love of mine. I enjoy remembering the flavors my mum used, experimenting with flavors I’ve created myself, and even drawing inspiration from my sister’s kitchen. Fiji has been a huge influence on me, its bold flavours, its rich traditions, and its comfort foods. And yes, while my kids gravitate towards Italian food, I love to share a taste of home and tradition in a way that’s easy for anyone to try.

The idea behind Bula Mail is simple: share a recipe each month. It might become a staple in your kitchen or just a fun experiment. For instance, did you know there’s more you can do with sausages than just pairing them with mashed potatoes or bread? Let me open your senses and show you.

Every recipe card is designed to inspire curiosity, delight, and connection whether you’re cooking for yourself, your family, or even sharing the experience with friends. It’s about slowing down, enjoying the process, and discovering something new.

So yes, this is just one of the many skills I’m collecting, one of many passions I’m pivoting between. But it’s meaningful, creative, and delicious and I’d love for you to join me on this little journey of flavour and discovery.

Because at the end of the day, life is richer when we keep learning, keep trying, and keep sharing the things that light us up, one recipe card at a time.

With love Rach x
